The Hazer Process uses natural gas and unprocessed iron ore to create low cost, low-emission “clean†hydrogen. It enables the effective conversion of natural gas, and similar feedstocks, into hydrogen and high quality graphite, using iron ore as a process catalyst. The aim of the Hazer Process will be to achieve savings for the hydrogen producer, as well as providing ‘clean’ hydrogen with significant lower carbon dioxide emissions, enabling such hydrogen to be used in a range of developing ‘clean energy’ applications, as well as in large existing chemical processing industries.
Since listing on the ASX, Hazer developed a research partnership with the University of Sydney, and established its core development operations within the School of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the University of Sydney. The company has achieved a number of key developmental milestones including the construction of Hazer’s Pre Pilot Plant, the production of high-purity synthetic graphite and hydrogen and successful testing of Hazer Graphite in lithium-ion batteries.
Most recently, Hazer has signed a Heads of Agreement with Mineral Resources for the potential development of commercial synthetic graphite facilities.
Hazer’s mission is to play a significant role across three multi-billion dollar global markets. Hazer’s technology can potentially provide an innovative solution for the global industrial hydrogen market, by producing hydrogen at lower cost than alternative options, while also reducing users’ CO2 footprint. The low-emissions associated with the Hazer Process also potentially provides a gateway for hydrogen to more effectively penetrate the sustainable energy market for both vehicle fuel and stationary power applications. Hazer is also looking to provide high quality synthetic graphite for energy storage and other large global graphite applications.
The Hazer Process takes two ubiquitous and cheap feedstocks (natural gas and iron ore), and uses these to generate two high value, high demand products (hydrogen & synthetic graphite) with global market applications. The core of our technology is the use of iron-ore as a low-cost catalyst for the gas decomposition reaction, which gives us a strong commercial advantage for accessing both hydrogen and high-quality graphite markets.
The key difference in the Hazer Process over alternative hydrogen production processes is that the carbon content of the natural gas feedstock is captured in the form of solid graphite, rather than being converted to CO2, making the process both cleaner and more cost effective. This allows Hazer to produce ‘clean’ hydrogen (with significant lower carbon dioxide emissions), enabling our hydrogen to be used in a range of developing clean energy applications, as well as in large existing chemical processing industries.
